Ensemble members Eilianie Alvelo and Emmy Cepeda performed their original work at UConn, Storrs. As a result, the campus Latino Cultural Center and students have started a writing club at the university!
"I just want to share with you how inspired we got the day of your presentation on March 1, 2011. It was gratifying to see how students can get to know themselves in such a way that they learn about their potential and so on. The idea of writing poetry as a way to express feelings, emotions, etc. helped us to visualize a writing club at the Center, through which students could free their mind not only writing poetry but articles, short stories, bios, etc. Writing is not only an intellectual skill to develop literacy but it is only a healing technique that for many Latinos means having the space to say what we want to say.
The job that you are doing through Teatro Vida is magnificent and commendable.
Congratulations!
